<There is not one, simple correct dosage for mineral tissue salts, as the amount you take will reflect the type and severity of your symptoms.
In adults, an average intake will be 4 tablets, 3 times a day before meals. If symptoms are very severe, the frequency of the dosage may be increased to 4 tablets every half hour or so, and then gradually reduced as the symptoms subside. As a general rule, the recommended dosage for children is 1-2 tablets.
As an example of a typical therapy, imagine you are suffering from a bad attack of hayfever. With running eyes, an irritating itch at the back of the throat and sneezing, Combination 'H' is the New Era remedy recommended to help relieve these symptoms. You might take 4 tablets at 9:00 am when the symptoms are at their worst, repeating this dosage at 10:00 am and 11:00 am. If you are beginning to feel better, delay taking the next dose until perhaps 1:00 pm. The following day, the symptoms might not be quite so severe, but they do still need to be controlled. In this case, take 3 doses of 4 tablets: a dose in the morning, one in the afternoon, and a third dose in the evening. This pattern of treatment may be necessary for the time that the pollen count is high, but you can reduce it gradually as the count lowers. When all the symptoms have disappeared, it is essential to continue .
The dosage is four tablets of tissue salts for an adult and two for a child. For infants, the tablets may be dissolved in some water. If you desire a stronger effect, administer the tablets more frequently. The intervals of dosage for each condition of concern are provided in the A-Z Conditions section of the encyclopedia. As a general rule, the tissue salts may be repeated every half hour for immediate relief if the complaint is acute or particularly problematic. If necessary, they may be repeated every ten or fifteen minutes. Once the acute stage has passed, reduce the dosage to three times daily until the condition has disappeared.
Long-Term illness
Some problems, such as rheumatic pain or sciatica, may need a slightly different approach. For longer-term symptoms, it might be beneficial to undertake therapy at low doses for a number of weeks, increasing the dose or frequency if the symptoms get worse. In these cases, a dose of perhaps 2 tablets twice a day may be adequate to control the symptoms, although 4 tablets could be taken or the frequency of doses increased to 3-5 times a day, if the condition becomes any worse. Again, dosages and frequency of taking the tablets should be tailed off when the symptoms diminish. If symptoms persist, you should always seek professional advice.
With chronic, long-term or lingering ailments, take four tablets three times daily. Stop when the discomfort has disappeared. Tissue salts are remedies that should not be taken on an ongoing basis for any problem. If the discomfort needs long-term repetition of a dosage, discontinue use and seek possible sources for this problem in your diet or lifestyle. Tissue salts do not prevent conditions and should not be used as nutritional supplements.
No danger of overdose
Mineral tissue salts are quite safe, and you cannot overdose on them. As you use them, you will learn what combinations, doses and frequency suit you. We all have different metabolisms and ailments, and so with this system, you can gear the treatment to your individual needs. Experiment with mineral tissue salts to find out what is right for you.
How to take mineral tissue salts
Mineral tissue salts are best taken before eating or drinking. The tablets are simply placed inside the mouth below the tongue and allowed to dissolve. This only takes a few seconds. When giving the tablets to children and babies over the age of 3 months, mineral tissue salts can be crushed and placed under the tongue.
Return to TopDr. William H. Schuessler of Oldenburg, Germany published Shortened Therapeutics in 1873. This eminently practical work concentrated on just 12 simple mineral combinations, or salts, which he believed to be crucial to the health of the body. Schuessler's students included major homeopathic figures such as H. C. G. Luyties of St. Louis, and Dr. Constantine Hering of Philadelphia, author of Hering's Law of Cure ("Cure occurs from the head down, from within out, and in the reverse order in which the symptoms first appeared.")
Efficient use of Schuessler's biochemistry requires three things: a working understanding of homeopathy, a recognition that LOCALIZED tissue mineral deficiencies may exist, and practical experience. The safety of homeopathic preparations is so extremely good that practically anyone may learn about and try these "cell salts" at home for themselves and their immediate family. More information on the salts and their specific health applications will be found in Dr. Schuessler's Biochemistry by J.B. Chapman, M.D. (London: New Era Labs, 1973). Dr. Chapman's excellent book indicates some keynote symptoms for the cell salts, of which the following is a summary:
Dr Wilhelm Schuessler
1880, Dr Wilhelm Schuessler (Schόssler or Schόίler) (1821-1898), Oldenburg in Germany, published his system of the twelve so-called Biochemic Tissue Salts. He postulated that these twelve salts were all that was needed to restore health, since the cell requires a balance of them and any imbalance would give rise to disease.
The Tissue Salt remedies were prepared by the homeopathic dilution method, to a 6x potency. Giving these potencies allowed the cells to rebalance their salts content, to restore health.
This was a very simple system of medicine and has had adherents ever since, who have been able to make important contributions to health. Despite its apparent over-simplicity, it does work. It has been used in animals too, to great effect. We believe, at the AVMC, that some form of modernization is needed, however.
At the turn of the twenty-first century, health is affected by so many factors, of which Schuessler could not possibly have dreamed. We have air pollution on a grand scale, we have radio and microwave pollution, we have water pollution and we have modern agriculture, with its agro-chemicals and, perhaps more importantly for this discussion, artificial nitrogenous fertilizers. The latter have plundered the natural fertility of our agricultural land, such that trace minerals have been drastically depleted. If a modern farm is converted to organic, it is estimated, from work in Switzerland, that it will take 100 years to restore balance in the micro-organisms of the soil, let alone the trace minerals.
Work has begun, to test the theory that has been used in this practice over the years, to establish whether mineral imbalances and relative deficiencies (and their resultant disease patterns) can be helped by the administration of the new tissue salts.
Dr. Schuessler's Theory
Dr. Schuessler determined that these inorganic substances are present in the body as compounds (mineral salts), and he named twelve principal compounds which he called "Tissue Salts". He defined the types of disease (symptoms) arising from a deficiency of each tissue salt, and from this knowledge was able to prescribe with great accuracy and effect.
Dr. Schuessler studied the function if each of these twelve tissue salts and was able to define the type of disorder caused by the disturbance of the physiological balance of each tissue salt, the symptoms varying according to the tissue salt which is lacking. Thus the symptoms point to the required tissue salt. The five principles of Dr. Schuessler's Biochemistry are:
1. Disease does not occur if cell metabolism is normal.
2. Cell metabolism is in turn normal if cell nutrition is adequate.
3. Nutritional substances are either of an organic or inorganic nature where the body is concerned.
4. The ability of the body cells to assimilate and to excrete and further to utilise nutritional material is impaired if there is a deficiency in the inorganic mineral (tissue salt) consistent of cellular tissues.
5. Adequate cell nutrition may be restored and cellular metabolism normalised by supplying the required tissue salts to be the organism in a finely divided assimilable form.

---|---|---|---|
1. | Calcium Flouride | Builds elastic tissues. | A lack of Calc Fluor creates a relaxed condition. This can lead to a hardening or swelling of the tissues. Such a disturbance causes the enlargement of blood vessels that appear as hemorrhoid tumors, enlarged veins, vascular tumors, and swollen and hardened glands. Calc Fluor is useful in treating many ailments of the bones and teeth and is useful in treating diseases of the skin and blood vessels. The restorative property of this remedy is in its ability to maintain elasticity of the tissues. Use it for uterine displacements, teeth loose in their sockets, sluggish circulation, muscular weakness, and ailments of tendons, ligaments, and fibrous tissue. |
2. | Calcium Phosphate | Forms new blood cells. | Because it is a major constituent of bones, Calc Phos is also a chief builder of bone tissue, and the principal salt deficient in diseases of bone structure. There is a need for Calc Phos to promote healthy cellular activity and to restore tone to weakened organs and tissues. Give Calc Phos for its restorative powers after acute diseases and infections. It has the capacity to build up new blood cells and can therefore treat many forms of anemia. Calc Phos is the cell salt for being generally run-down. Use it for children who are not developing properly. Calc Phos is indicated in the elderly, where regenerative function decreases in the nervous tissue. Use it for infants' teething problems, inherited weaknesses, and disease tendencies. Calc Phos and Mag Phos are the two remedies for cramps and spasms. |
3. | Calcium Sulphate | Blood purifier. | This remedy works well with Silica as a healer of wounds. As a skin remedy, it is important in the formation of new skin and as an eliminator of waste materials. Considered a great blood purifier and healer, Calc Sulph helps the liver with the removal of waste products from the blood stream. Use in cases arising from impurities in the blood stream, such as minor skin ailments, acne, and pimples during adolescence. It has a purifying and cleansing effect throughout the system making it important in the fight against new infections. |
4. | Iron Phosphate | Oxygen carrier. | This is the primary biochemical first-aid remedy because it carries oxygen throughout the body and strengthens the walls of the blood vessels, especially the arteries. It is the cell salt most concerned with the blood. It can stop the flow of blood in abnormal hemorrhage. In conditions of fever and inflammation, there is usually a Ferr Phos deficiency. |
5. | Potassium Chloride | Blood conditioner. | Kali Mur is an essential parts of muscles, nerve cells, blood, and brain cells. A deficiency causes fibrin be thrown off as a thick, white discharge. In chronic ailments it is especially helpful in treating severe inflammation. Kali Mur can help destroy waste material when the body is fighting off a fever or infection. Because it is a building agent, give this remedy to aid the process of convalescing and rebuilding health. Use for the first-aid treatment of burns, as a blood conditioner, and for such ailments as coughs, colds, chills, and bronchitis. The throat and Eustachian tube are the organs most influenced by Kali Mur. |
6. | Potassium Phosphate | Nerve nutrient. | Kali Phos is the remedy for jangled nerves. It has become essential in the treatment of nervous conditions. Used around the world as a natural tranquilizer, it has helped people who have suffered from such problems as grief, despair, and sorrow for long periods of time. It is important in the treatment of irritating skin ailments, such as shingles. Kali Phos is a brain builder and the basis of brain or nerve fluid. Indications for this remedy are a lack of nerve power, prostration, nervous headaches, loss of mental vigor, depression, student brain-fog, rapid decomposition of the blood, as a stress remedy for shock. |
7. | Potassium Sulphate | Cell oxygenator. | It has a beneficial effect on the respiration of the body by working with Ferr Phos to help blood carry oxygen to all the cells. It also aids in conditions of the lungs, sinuses, and the bronchi. Known as the anti-friction cell salt, Kali Sulph acts like a lubricant of parts. Use this cell salt in the late stages of all inflammations. Kali Sulph is very important for healthy skin. A deficiency of this remedy causes oil in the body to become thick and clog the pores, or present as a sticky, yellowish discharge from the skin, mucous membranes, or any orifice of the body. This oil substance can discharge from any glandular swelling, abscess, cancer, etc. |
8. | Magnesium Phosphate | Antispasmodic. | This antispasmodic cell salt is a remarkable remedy. Its primary function is in correcting violent ailments, especially spasms. Being a nerve stabilizer, it reduces spasmodic darting pains such as those found in sciatica, or neuralgia. Mag Phos works well with Calc Phos for most kinds of cramps. Deficiencies of Mag Phos result in conditions such as flatulence, convulsions, and other nervous disturbances. |
9. | Sodium Chloride | Body water balancer. | This remedy regulates the degree of moisture within the cells. Exceptional dryness or excessive moisture in any part of the body usually shows the need for Nat Mur. The organs in the body most influenced by Nat Mur are the kidneys and sinuses. This remedy is an antihistamine. It also relieves imbalances of the lymphatic system, blood, spleen, and the mucous membrane lining of the alimentary canal. |
10. | Sodium Phosphate | Acid neutralizer. | As a biochemical antacid, it regulates the acid-base balance in the stomach. Use Nat Phos when symptoms of acidity are present such as dyspepsia, digestive upsets and heartburn. Another key function of Nat Phos is its ability to help in the assimilation of fats. Nat Phos is the principal remedy for ailments arising from an acid condition in the blood, such as rheumatism. It also acts upon the bowels, glands, lungs, and abdominal organs to bring the system back into balance. |
11. | Sodium Sulphate | Water eliminator. | Nat Sulph acts to remove wastes from the cells. Use this cell salt when there are symptoms such as chills, malaria, influenza, watery infiltration, and other conditions where there is a need to regulate the excretion of superfluous water. Nat Sulph is also important as a liver salt. It controls the healthy function of the liver. This cell salt is also useful in the later stages of digestion. |
12. | Silicon Dioxide | Waste eliminator. | This remedy cleanses and eliminates waste. It helps the body to throw off non-functional organic matter, and is called the "homeopathic surgeon." Silica can create a passage to the surface of the skin and rid the body of impurities. It can often help with the healing process of abscesses and boils. Since Silica restores activity to the skin, and aids in the cleansing process, it helps to cure chronic skin conditions. Silica acts as an insulator for the nerves; influences the bones, joints, glands, skin, and mucous membranes; and is associated with ailments that create pus formation. |
